Two people lost their lives on Monday morning when a dumper (UK 18 CA 6636) went out of control and crashed into three vehicles at Lachhiwala toll plaza on the Dehradun-Haridwar highway. The accident reportedly occurred due to brake failure, causing the dumper to collide with three cars before hitting a toll plaza pole, as per the officials. They informed that one of the cars (UK07 AF 2506) was severely crushed between the dumper and the pole.

Both occupants of the vehicle, Ratanmani Uniyal, a resident of Indraprastha Enclave, Raipur, Dehradun, and Pankaj Kumar, also from Dehradun, died on the spot. They were employed at the district court in Tehri and were on their way to work there when the accident occurred, as per the officials. The police, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered the bodies. The SDRF team, with support from the police, Fire Service and other units, used a mechanical excavator and crane to remove the dumper and extract the trapped vehicle.

The officials said that after hours of effort, the bodies of the deceased were retrieved from the car and handed over to the police for further procedures.
