The Dehradun police on Sunday arrested two men for allegedly firing at a restaurant owner’s wife after they found excessive oil in food. The Senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar stated in a Press conference here on Sunday that the police received a complaint late on May 19 regarding two unknown men who allegedly fired at a restaurant owner’s wife in the Premnagar area. A police team was sent there who analysed the scene to investigate the matter. He said that the hotel operator and the complainant named Ashok Sen registered a complaint against unknown men and the police started an investigation. He said, “The police teams inspected the spot closely and recorded the statements of eyewitnesses. The police asked the information about the appearance of unknown persons and also analysed CCTV footage of cameras installed in the area.”
According to the footage, both accused arrived at the restaurant in a blue car and fled in the same. He said that the police analysed 50 cameras in the area to identify the blue car and activated informers network to identify and inform about the car. “The police team soon received information that both accused have been trying to escape from Dehradun following which, the police started checking and arrested them from Nanda ki Chowki,” said the SSP. He said that the police also recovered a pistol used to fire at the restaurant owner along with 15 live cartridges, two magazines and the blue car.
Both accused named Sundar Singh (24), a native of Haryana and Gaurav Chauhan (36), a native of Uttar Pradesh, said during the investigation that they were infuriated after they found excessive oil in their food that they had bought from the restaurant late on Friday night. “They allegedly called the restaurant to complain and both parties had a verbal dispute over the phone. They said that they wanted to teach the owner a lesson so they returned to the restaurant and had a fight with him. When the owner’s wife tried to save her husband, Gaurav allegedly fired at her but they escaped soon after people started gathering around them. Both will be presented in the court soon,” said Kunwar. He also announced giving a reward of Rs 5,000 to the police team for nabbing both accused.
