Two men lost their lives after their motorcycle fell into a 200 metre deep gorge near Guptkashi in Rudraprayag district on Tuesday. The men were identified as Pauri residents Jaideep Singh Rawat (26) and Rohit Rawat (25) who possibly lost control of the motorcycle due to which it fell into the nearby deep gorge. Both had died at the spot, the officials said. They stated that the Sonprayag police station received information about the motorcycle accident near Guptkashi at around noon and called the search and rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to the spot. On receiving the information, the SDRF team under the supervision of sub inspector Ashish Dimri reached the accident site along with the necessary rescue equipment. The team descended into the deep gorge with the help of rope and found both men dead on the spot. The officials said that it took a considerable amount of time and hard work to recover the bodies from the gorge and bring them up to the main road. The team brought the bodies on stretcher boards using rope by a footpath and handed them over to the local police. The officials said that the deceased did not appear to be inebriated and possibly lost control of the motorcycle.
