To improve the facilities for the patients, the administration of Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital has added two additional beds to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). Stating this, the medical superintendent of the hospital Dr VS Chauhan said that a meeting was recently held with Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal. During this meeting, the hospital administration proposed an increase in the number of beds in the SNCU at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital. He stated that the DM approved the proposal and provided instructions to expand the bed capacity at the SNCU, he said.
Dr Chauhan stated that the current SNCU unit at the hospital has six beds. However, there are times when the number of patients in the SNCU rises, making it challenging for the hospital to provide immediate services. In light of this situation, a proposal was presented to the DM in the meeting. Following the DM’s directions, the hospital administration has recently added two beds to the SNCU unit. Dr Chauhan added that two more additional beds will also be installed in the SNCU and the hospital administration plans to expand the facility from six to 12 beds. He added that the capacity of the unit will continue to grow, depending on available space.
In further comments regarding the staff, he said that the SNCU is adequately staffed, currently having two pediatricians in the unit—one is permanent and the other is on a contractual basis. Additionally, there are four MBBS doctors available: one is a permanent staff member and three are hired on a contractual basis. There are also an average of 14 nurses available. He stated that the staff in the SNCU ward is sufficient and no more personnel are needed.
It will be recalled that the SNCU ward at the Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital started its operations a few months back and was officially inaugurated by the Health minister, Dhan Singh Rawat.
