Two teenagers died by drowning in Ganga river near Kunau village in Pauri district on Sunday morning. The police called the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to conduct a search and rescue operation for victims, Ishaan Bijlwan and Dipesh Rawat, both aged 15, who were swept away in the river. The SDRF team conducted a search operation for hours in all possible areas where the boys could have been carried by the current. They eventually recovered the body of Ishaan Bijlwan, son of Sunil Datt Bijlwan, and handed it over to the district police. However, despite continued efforts till late evening, the team did not get any clues about Rawat. The officials informed that both teenagers were residents of Bees Bigha, Rishikesh. They expressed uncertainty over how the boys drowned but speculate they were possibly present near the river or bathing in the river when the strong current, common during the monsoon, swept them away. Authorities have urged the public to avoid venturing near rivers and water bodies during heavy rains due to the increased risk of sudden water surges. The search for Rawat will be continued on Monday, the officials added.
