The Dehradun district administration has set up Uttarakhand’s first dedicated computer kiosk near the land registry office through which citizens will be able to access land related information via the e-registration website. The kiosk aims to prevent land fraud and raise awareness among the public, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. He stated that this initiative will help curb land fraud and educate people about the necessary precautions before property transactions. This set up is also expected to reduce the involvement of middlemen in land transactions by allowing direct access to official records. Bansal said that the administration will also install banners in government offices to inform citizens about key points to consider before land registration in order to increase public awareness. He stated that a major cause of land fraud is the lack of prior knowledge about registry and land records among the public. There is a need to close this information gap by ensuring that land buyers and sellers verify the required documents such as land records and identity proofs, before completing transactions. This kiosk is expected to bridge the gap and raise awareness among maximum people, the DM said. He also added that the kiosk will be inaugurated soon.
