World Environment Day was observed with participation of teachers and students by the Uttarakhand Council for Biotechnology, Haldi, Pantnagar on Monday. It was inaugurated by the dean, College of Agriculture, Pantnagar, SK Kashyap and others.
Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Kashyap said that the environment is safe today only because of the traditional knowledge of the ancestors and stressed on its application in present- day life. “It is said that by going into the soil, the plastic chokes the soil due to which the underground soil is affected,” he said.
The forest department research officer Madan Singh Bisht spoke of the usefulness of different types of medicinal plants in human life and explained the measures to conserve the species which are going extinct due to global warming.
