In latest news from Uttarakhand, in sync with the party’s stand on this communally sensitive issue, the Uttarakhand State Congress dubbed the State government’s UCC enforcement move as a politically motivated one which is neither uniform nor civil. Reacting to it, the State party’s principal spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasoni said that the common people here are far removed from the euphoria visible in the government and the ruling party. “UCC enforcement has never been a public demand. It is more a political maneuver than a social necessity,” she said, adding that marked with a selective approach, it is meant to abolish the civil codes of minority communities like Christians, Muslims, Parsis and Sikhs. Tearing into the ruling party, she further said that it is heavily loaded against the interests of the original population of the State, favouring the recent sellers.
