UCC to bring big positive change in lives of people: CM Dhami

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that his government has fulfilled the promise made to the people of Uttarakhand on the eve of the assembly election of 2022 by passing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill in the State Assembly on Wednesday. He said that the State government has got the mandate of the people on UCC and claimed that it will bring a big positive change in the lives of the people. Participating in the debate on the UCC in the assembly on Wednesday the CM said that it is a matter of great pleasure that Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to take a lead on UCC and expressed confidence that other states will also take inspiration from Uttarakhand on UCC. He said that equality is enshrined in our constitution and UCC is an embodiment of this idea of the constitution, The CM expressed surprise at the fact that people had waited for a long period for getting equal rights. He said that the British followed the policy of divide and rule and they avoided the UCC and after independence politics of appeasement prevented any decision on it.
Mentioning the Shah Bano case and Saira Bano case the CM said that women were denied justice and now with UCC they will get justice.
Dhami said that UCC is above all castes, religions, sects and will provide equal rights to all without any discrimination. He said that article 44 of the constitution endeavours for UCC. He said that the UCC will empower the women and make them independent. Giving examples of countries such as Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Japan, US, Canada, Bangladesh and Indonesia, the CM said that they all have UCC in their country.
Taking part in the debate Vikasnagar MLA Munna Singh Chauhan said that UCC is a progressive legislation and said that history is being created in Uttarakhand. He said that everyone including all educated Muslim women are happy with the UCC.
Cabinet ministers Satpal Maharaj, Dhan Singh Rawat, Saurabh Bahuguna and many MLAs of treasury benches lauded the UCC by terming it as the need of the hour. They congratulated CM Dhami for taking an initiative on the UCC.
