UCOST organises programme to mark Earth Day

A programme with the theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’ was organised at the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) to mark the Earth Day on Wednesday.
Students, researchers and faculty members from various educational institutions participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion the director general of UCOST Durgesh Pant said that public awareness is the true essence of science. He also shared information about the proposed Science City in Dehradun and the establishment of science centres in every district.
Highlighting the council’s important initiative, ‘Vigyan Setu’, the GD said its objective is to effectively disseminate UCOST’s scientific activities, research achievements and innovations at national and global levels.
The keynote lecture was delivered by associate professor, Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, UPES, Bhalchandra Shingan. He elaborated on various aspects of sustainable energy, including solar and wind energy, natural gas, government policies and future prospects. The lecture was followed by an interactive session where participants enthusiastically asked questions and shared their views.
Finance Controller, Department of Science and Technology, Tanzeemm Ali informed about the concept of ‘Green Budget’ and shared his views on the importance of Earth Day and the challenges of climate change. He noted that climate change has significant impacts on both economic and social life.
