The Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Agastya International Foundation to launch the Mukhyamantri Labs on Wheels project in Uttarakhand. Initiated by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, this pioneering initiative aims to provide laboratory facilities to students residing in border areas of the State where such resources are scarce, officials said.
According to UCOST, the Mukhyamantri Labs on Wheels project is designed to operate in all 13 districts of the State. Currently, the scheme is operational in four districts, bringing the benefits of hands-on scientific experiments and experiences to students who earlier had limited access to practical resources. In its second phase, the initiative will expand to cover the remaining districts of the State, ensuring that every corner of Uttarakhand benefits from this innovative programme.
Under this scheme, mobile laboratories equipped with biology and chemistry experiment material will offer students hands-on learning experiences. Each laboratory will be accompanied by a trained mentor who will facilitate engaging experiments and provide guidance to students.
Officials further said that the project holds tremendous promise for enhancing the quality of science education in Uttarakhand, particularly for students residing in remote and underserved areas. By bringing laboratory facilities directly to their doorstep, the initiative aims to ignite curiosity, foster critical thinking and inspire a new generation of innovators.
The UCOST director general Durgesh Pant appreciated Agastya International Foundation for the collaboration and contribution to achieving this significant milestone.
