UCOST to host country’s first Rural Science Congress

The Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) will host the country’s first Rural Science Congress from February 10 to 12 in association with Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation (HESCO) and Uttarakhand Council of Biotechnology (UCB). The director general of UCOST Durgesh Pant and HESCO founder Anil Joshi informed the media about the event in a Press conference here on Thursday. Pant said that this event will emphasise on rural science and technology focussing on rural technology and innovation, and how these aspects are applied to rural communities, rural development, rural entrepreneurship and traditional knowledge systems. He said that UCOST will also give a platform to farmers, practitioners, researchers and innovators to present their new ideas, successful case studies, innovations, products and techniques. Leading scientists will also interact with participants in discussions about relevant scientific knowledge and best practices in order to enhance rural well-being, said Pant. He said that UCOST will also organise 17th Uttarakhand State Science and Technology Congress (USSTC) in which the research and development related papers conducted in the state will be presented before renowned subject experts of the country and the world. After a successful evaluation of the papers , the winners will be Felicia with the Young Scientist Award and Young Innovator Award, said the UCOST DG. The event will be inaugurated by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He will also inaugurate solar powered hydroponics set-up and mobile app for Unnat Krishi along with QR based biodiversity park. The HESCO founder said that UCOST will organise a millet festival to promote Mandwa, Jhangora and other grains and pulses of mountainous areas as 2023 is being celebrated as the International Year of Millets.
