Police awaiting DNA report to identify victims

The Udham Singh Nagar police are yet to identify two victims whose body parts were found near the Boar river in the Bajpur area on Wednesday morning, as claimed by the officials. The body parts include two legs and a severed foot which allegedly belong to a woman and a man respectively but the police have said that they are yet to confirm their respective genders. It is also suspected that the legs belong to a local woman who was missing for the last few days.

The locals have reportedly identified the woman’s legs on the basis of the clothes found on the body parts but the police said that they are probing the matter and cannot make any vague comment regarding the identities of both the victims. “The police have sent the body parts for DNA tests and we will be able to confirm their genders only after getting the test reports. Since the body parts appear to belong to two different bodies, it points towards double murder in the area. We are also investigating the missing woman case but it is still an ongoing investigation and we are working to identify victims and catch the culprits,” said a senior police officer of the district involved in the investigation team.

The police on Wednesday reached the spot with forensic teams and a dog squad after getting information about finding human body parts in the area. The police also looked for the remaining parts of the bodies in the river with the help of divers and locals apart from searching in the nearby area. The police also searched for the parts on Thursday but nothing was found till late evening, said the official. He said that they will take action accordingly once they get DNA and other necessary test reports of victims.
