U’hand to introduce regular police system in 1,444 villages

The state government has notified 1,444 villages as a part of its plan to abolish the existing revenue police system and bring them under the regular police system in a phased manner. The officials informed that a total of 1,444 villages have been notified forming 20 reporting police posts and six new police stations which have been established mostly at tourist destinations and places with criminal activities. These 1,444 villages include 270 villages from Pauri, 120 villages from Chamoli, 267 villages from Tehri, 104 villages of Rudraprayag, 47 villages of Uttarkashi, 121 villages of Nainital, 398 villages of Almora, 103 villages of Champawat and 14 villages from Dehradun,. The government has notified these villages to bring them under the regular police system after the failure of revenue police in the Ankita Bhandari murder case.
