The Uttarakhand Information Commission will organise workshops for departments and undertake other measures to raise awareness on the Right To Information Act. Stating this while addressing the media on Thursday, the chief information commissioner in-charge Vivek Sharma said that the commission will hold two workshops every month for public information officers and other officials concerned of all departments in order to make the implementation of the RTI Act more effective. The RTI Day is celebrated annually on October 12 and in the runup to this occasion, the commission will organise workshops for officials concerned of all the departments to make the implementation of the Act more effective. Further, to raise public awareness, the commission will also organise State-level debates and facilitate awareness through higher education institutions across the State, he said.Sharma further said that out of the total applications being received under the RTI Act, the applicants were submitting the second appeal/complaint in only four per cent cases. This means that most of the applicants are satisfied with the functioning of the public information officers and first appellate officers, he said. State Information Commissioners Yogesh Bhatt, Vipin Chandra and the commission secretary Arvind Pande were also present on the occasion.
