Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) has initiated preliminary preparations for the approaching monsoon season. The UJS secretary (Appraisal) Maneesh Semwal said that during a recent meeting chaired by the chief secretary Anand Bardhan, the necessity of preparing ahead of the upcoming monsoon season was stressed upon by Bardhan who also issued necessary instructions. Considering this, UJS has started its initial preparations for the monsoon. He informed that officials from divisions in every district have been asked to provide information regarding the materials that they will require for the monsoon season.
In addition, instructions were issued to carry out restoration of the schemes that were damaged during the monsoon season of 2025. Semwal further stated that once the material demand details from each district are provided, the UJS will formulate a plan and order the necessary buffer stock for the upcoming monsoon season. He also informed that funds have been allocated to each district magistrate by the relevant officials for the restoration of water supply schemes that were impacted during the 2025 monsoon season and that are currently in a temporarily restored state.
The officials in each district will request verification and seek assistance from their particular DM for the restoration funds for the water supply schemes. Funds have been allocated for the permanent restoration of the water supply systems, he added.
Semwal further said that in 2025, approximately 3,641 water supply schemes were impacted. The damage to these systems is primarily attributed to events during the monsoon season, including landslides, cloudbursts and heavy rainfall. These conditions pose significant challenges for water supply during this time, Semwal said. The monsoon season typically begins on July 1. Initial preparations have already started and as the season approaches, further preparations will be made promptly, he added.
