The UJVN Limited is taking all possible security measures for its power plants, machines and other components of projects considering the rise in level of water in rivers and excessive silt due to consistent heavy rains in the mountainous regions.
The corporation has set up a control room at its headquarters in Dehradun along with the control rooms already established at its power plants during the monsoon for 24 hour monitoring of its projects. In case of more silt and rise in the level of rivers, barrage gates are opened for flood pass while machines in the power plants are shut down till the water level and silt decreases. The project officers are also in contact with the local police and administration.
The general public is also informed through sirens and other means about rising levels and flood pass. Such projects are being taken for some days now in the projects of the corporation in Ganga and Yamuna valleys, officials said. On Tuesday morning, the GVK company which operates the Srinagar hydro power project informed the corporation’s Pashulok barrage about Alaknanda river’s level rising in Rudraprayag and that the company would release 3,000 cumecs water at 9:30 AM. The barrage administration informed all important places downstream about this and later at 11:30 AM the downstream gates of the barrage were lifted.
