The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) staged a stir at Drona Chowk in Dehradun on Thursday against the worsening law and order situation in the State. During the demonstration, the party activists burnt the State government in its effigy and raised slogans, demanding strict action against criminals.

Addressing the gathering, the party’s Mahanagar president, Praveen Ramola said that public trust in the police and the State government has been shaken after four murders in two weeks. “Criminals have become fearless and consequently, murders are being committed in broad daylight.  Dehradun has ceased to be a peaceful city with hardened criminals moving about fearlessly for their prey,” he said.

The central general secretary of the regional party, Kiran Rawat also mentioned the recent double murder in Haldwani. “We are all worried about the criminals prowling about to strike,” she said.

The party warned that they would launch a vigorous movement if the government fails to rein in the criminals.
