U’khand chapter of Telemedicine Society of India opens at AIIMS

The Telemedicine Society of India (TSI) started its Uttarakhand chapter at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on Monday. The director of AIIMS Rishikesh, Dr Meenu Singh and TS secretary Dr Murthy Remilla jointly launched the Uttarakhand State chapter of TSI.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Meenu Singh who is the president of the TSI’s Uttarakhand chapter, said that other medical and nursing colleges in the country would also get connected with this technology-based medical facility soon. She said that the telemedicine facility is a special benefit for mountainous States like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The AIIMS director said that plans are being prepared at various levels to widely spread this technology-based facility for health care and better education. She informed that the Base Hospital in Kotdwar and Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie are connected with the telemedicine facility of AIIMS Rishikesh at present.
The secretary of TSI, Dr Murthy Remilla described the technology-based telemedicine facility as beneficial for strengthening health facilities across the country. He explained how the operation of telemedicine facilities can be expanded with the help of satellites being launched into space and the information technology of satellites. “ With the help of a telemedicine facility, we are trying to strengthen health facilities from village to village,’’ he said.
The vice president of TSI, Shalini Rajaram, dean of academics Jaya Chaturvedi, secretary of TSI Uttarakhand chapter and Head of Department (HoD) of Urology, AIIMS- Rishikesh, Dr Ankur Mittal also addressed the ceremony.
