U’khand CM announces steps to boost sports

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that 50 girls and boys each between eight and 14 years of age will be selected based on their potential and provided the chief minister’s sportsperson upliftment scholarship every year. Further, the daily allowance of players will be fixed at Rs 225. Dhami made these and other announcements on the occasion of National Sports Day on Sunday.
He said that a women’s sports college will be established in Udham Singh Nagar district while those who participate in the national games will be provided free travelin Uttarakhand State Transport Corporation buses. Further, five per cent sports quota will be provided in colleges and vocational courses. Those who win medals in national games will also be provided government jobs as provided to medal winners in Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympics.
Dhami further announced that sports science centre will be established in the state sports development institute to focus on scientific and psychological aspects of the performances of sportspersons. Coaches will also be facilitated to ensure participation of the players from Uttarakhand in the Olympics. Attempts will also be made to turn the Maharana Pratap Sports College in Dehradun into a sports university, said the chief minister.
