U’khand Cong braces up for 2- month long Padyatra

Rahul, Priyanka to participate in rally against Agnipath scheme

The former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi will participate in the Padyatra of Uttarakhand Congress against the Agnipath scheme. The two- month long rally will commence in September and will cover all parts of the State.

 The State unit of the party has started making preparations for the programme. A meeting regarding the preparations for the Padyatra was held at Congress Bhawan here on Monday. The in -charge of the Uttarakhand Congress, Devendra Yadav and all the senior leaders of the party attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said the youngsters are feeling cheated by the Agnipath scheme which has been foisted on them. He said that in the Ankita Bhandari murder case the government and Police administration are continuing to adopt a sloppy attitude. The general public wants to know about the VIP involved in the case. There has been a surge in the cases of crime against women in the State. Mahara said that the people of State are looking at the Congress party with much hope. He said that the Padyatra will pass through all the assembly constituencies of the State and will provide an opportunity to get connected with the masses.

 The in-charge of the State unit, Yadav said that Uttarakhand got no benefit from the double engine government.   He said that the issue of land subsidence in Joshimath is yet to be solved and the State government has failed to provide safety to women. Yadav said that the BJP government has failed to meet the expectations of the people and the anger of the people against the government is increasing. He said that Rahul Gandhi understands the situation in Uttarakhand very well so he has decided to give considerably long time for attending the Yatra in the State.

Former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the voice of people of the State is not being heard. He said that every year 10,000 youngsters used to be recruited in the Indian Army but the Agnipath scheme has put their future in jeopardy. The youngsters are dejected and it is the responsibility of the Congress party to infuse new hope in them.

 The leader of opposition (LoP) in the State assembly, Yashpal Arya said that the law and order situation in the State is in ruins and development has ceased.  

Former PCC president Pritam Singh said that the BJP has cheated the people of the State in the name of double engine and the State is getting no assistance from the union government. Whatever help is being given is in the form of a loan and the State is already reeling under the burden of debt.

 Former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal said that women are afraid to come out of homes as the incidents of rape are increasing in the State. 

Former minister Harak Singh Rawat said that the Padyatra of Rahul Gandhi will pave the way for change in Uttarakhand.
