Tuesday, 14 June 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

In protest against what it termed misuse of the central agencies to harass the leaders of the opposition, the Uttarakhand Congress staged a Dharna outside the office of Enforcement Directorate (ED) here on Monday. The protest was part of the countrywide agitation of the Congress party on the issue.

Speaking on the occasion, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the Indian National Congress has been the voice of every citizen of the country for the last 136 years. Evoking the names of Gandhi, Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad and  Rajendra Prasad, the PCC president said that the Congress party fought for  the freedom of the country. He said that those who are in power today are the followers of those who had sought forgiveness from the British. Launching a scathing attack on the Modi government, Mahara said that instead of fighting price rise, unemployment and corruption the BJP government is fighting with those who are its political opponents.

Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly Yashpal Arya said the Modi government is registering fictitious cases on the opposition leaders to hide its failures. He said that as a part of the conspiracy the government intends to harass the opposition leaders using central agencies as its tools. Arya said that the Congress leaders would oppose the conspiracy of the government both inside the assembly and outside it. Former PCC president Pritam Singh said that ED has started action on the former president of Congress party Rahul Gandhi on the indication of Modi government.   He said that the Modi government has proved to be a total failure on every front and in an attempt to move the attention of the public from unemployment, ever escalating prices and corruption it is using central agencies to harass opposition leaders.

The deputy leader of Congress legislature party Bhuwan Kapdi, MLAs Rajendra Bhandari, Vikram Singh Negi, Mamta Rakesh, Furkan Ahmed, Virendra Jati, Ravi Bahadur, Anupma Rawat, Vice president Organisation Mathura Dutt Joshi, Vice President Surya Kant Dhasmana, Media in charge Rajiv Mehrishi and other leaders took part in the protest.
