Police & administration working under pressure of BJP Govt to shield ‘VIP’: PCC president

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that in the Ankita Bhandari case the Uttarakhand police and administration are working under pressure from the BJP government to shield the VIP reportedly involved in the case. He said that the identity of the VIP the BJP government is trying to shield in the Ankita Bhandari case should be disclosed. Mahara said that the sloppiness of the police and the administration has been evident from day one in the case. “There was a deliberate delay in registration of the case since a BJP leader was involved and efforts were made to tangle the issue between the revenue and the regular police. The accused were not arrested initially and when they were apprehended they were not taken on police remand. An attempt was then made to tamper with the evidence by using a bulldozer and incidents of fire in the resort,’’ he said.

The PCC president added that there are many contradictions in the action and statements of police in the case. Terming the statement given by a minister in the State Assembly regarding the VIP in the case as laughable, Mahara said that it also points towards the government patronage in the case. He said that there are many unresolved questions in the Ankita Bhandari case in the minds of the people of the State which are bothering and hurting them. He said that since the role of the Police in the case has come under cloud the Congress party and general public are consistently demanding that it should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
