Terming the Pithoragarh visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as disappointing for Uttarakhand the Congress has said that the visit was nothing more than religious sightseeing and political manoeuvring.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that PM Modi has visited Uttarakhand many times but the State has always remained empty handed. He said that the PM remained silent on the murder of Ankita Bhandari. The PM also didn’t utter a single word to condole the recent deaths of seven locals on Dharchula- Gunji Road. Mahara said that the PM has visited Kedarnath many times and he always tries to establish himself as the disciple of Lord Shiva but has remained silent on the alleged gold scam in Kedarnath shrine. He said that by conducting a photoshoot in Adi Kailash temple where photography is prohibited, the PM has offended the sentiments of the people.
He said that more than 400 villages of the State are affected by the disaster and their villagers are waiting to be shifted to safer places. Joshimath is suffering from land subsidence for the last one year but the PM has made no attempt to understand the pain of these people. Mahara added that the Congress government had given a proposal to the Modi government that green bonus should be given to Uttarakhand in lieu of its environmental services to the country but the BJP government has taken no notice .
Mahara said that in the last 10 years of BJP rule not a single mega project was given to the State. He claimed that all the mega construction projects were sanctioned during Congress rule.
