U’khand continues to reel under dengue menace

97 new cases surface in the State on Wednesday
The spurt in the number of dengue patients in Uttarakhand is continuing unabatedly. The State health department reported a total of 97 new cases of the disease from different parts of the State on Wednesday which increased the patient count to 1855 in the State this season. As per the department data a total of 1498 patients have recovered from the disease so far while the number of active patients is 343 in the State. The authorities reported 24 new cases of the disease from Nainital, 20 from Pauri and 16 each from Dehradun and Haridwar, eight from Udham Singh Nagar, five from Chamoli, four from Bageshwar, three from Almora and one from Rudraprayag on Wednesday.
A total of 14 deaths of the patients suffering from the disease has so far been reported by the health department. The provisional State capital Dehradun has reported 13 deaths. The district health authorities of Dehradun inform that deaths of three patients each have occurred in Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital and Mahant Indiresh hospital while two patients have died each in Synergy and Kailash hospital so far. Death of one patient each has occurred in Kanishk and Kailash hospital. The district has reported 826 cases of the disease this season out of which 703 have recovered from the disease. As per the authorities 44 patients of the disease are admitted in different hospitals of the district.
Dengue is a viral infection spread by the mosquito Aedes Aezypti popularly known as Tiger Mosquito. The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In the acute cases the platelets number decreases drastically which may prove fatal for the patient.
