Uttarakhand is traditionally known for pilgrimage and various tourist destinations. However, in recent years, the State has developed into a popular destination for film and documentary makers.
Recently Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar visited Mussoorie for shooting one of his upcoming movies and said that he loved working here. Some days ago, film producer Jackky Bhagnani met the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Talking to this correspondent, the Uttarakhand Film and Development Council (UFDC) nodal officer KS Chauhan said that the film actors and producers always have a good time shooting here.
He further informed that 236 movies have been shot in the State so far and many more upcoming projects are slated to be shot here in the coming days. Chauhan said that actor Akshay kumar and film producer Jackky Bhagnani personally gave him positive feedback about their experience in Uttarakhand. “Film producers and actors love working here for various reasons. They get easy permits through the single window system that saves their time and energy. The open studio and natural ambience is another reason why the film industry is attracted more towards the State. People here are good to deal with and create no hassles while shooting as per the feedback given by Akshay Kumar,” said Chauhan.
The UFDC nodal officer also referred to the air connectivity between Mumbai and Dehradun which makes it convenient for actors and film crews to reach their destination.
It is pertinent to mention here that Uttarakhand had received the Most Film- Friendly State award as part of the 66th national film awards in 2019. The state also received a national film award for ‘special mention certificate for film friendly environment’ in 2017. During the Covid-19 pandemic, shooting for films had continued in observance of Covid protocols. With the pandemic now appearing to be on the wane, the shooting of movies and other projects is on the upswing.
