U’khand first State in nation to implement NEP-2020: Dhami

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Uttarakhand is the first State in the country to implement the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. He said that the State government has also developed 20 government colleges as model colleges.
He was addressing a programme organised on the completion of 70 years of establishment of Guru Ram Rai Inter College at Sahaspur, Dehradun on Tuesday.
Dhami said that 141 PM Shri schools and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose residential schools are being constructed in the State. The CM informed that 50 virtual classrooms have been set up in 13 districts and the textbooks of National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) have been made compulsory in all the schools. The government is paying an incentive of Rs 600 to Rs 1,200 per month to the meritorious students and the facility of India tour is given to them.
He averred that the government has started a special scheme for the education of the disaster affected orphan children of the State.
The CM added that women’s hostels, IT laboratories and examination halls are being constructed. The State government has also started many schemes for promotion of sports and in the recent National Games the State reached the seventh position in the medal tally. The State has taken up an initiative to provide government jobs to the players winning medals in the national level sports events. He said that the State government has implemented a stringent anti-copying act due to which many mafia are behind the bars. He claimed that in the last three years not even a single recruitment examination question paper has been leaked and during this period more than 20,000 youngsters got jobs in different departments in a fair and transparent manner.
Emphasising on the development of character of students, the CM said that education and values make the person competent for the society and the nation.
Congratulating the management, staff and students of the school, the CM said that the school is involved in imparting education after independence. He appreciated the school principal Ravindra Kumar Saini who has been serving the school for the last 35 years.
He exhorted the students to work hard and fulfil the dreams of their parents. The local MLA Sahadev Singh Pundir, municipal council chairperson Neeru Devi and others attended the programme.
