Uttarakhand has become the first State in the country to optimise the supply chain of its Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) which has reached over 300 supply chains across the State in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP). It has also become the first State in the country to successfully set up a Mobile Storage Unit (MSU) with a capacity of 500 metric tonnes for grain storage with the help of this programme.
The Food and Civil Supplies minister Rekha Arya said this in an event organised by WFP in association with the Food and Civil Supplies department on Monday in Dehradun. She said that the public distribution system is getting better across the State due to the assistance provided by WFP.
During the Kumbh Mela last year, MSU also enabled the department to provide an uninterrupted supply of food grains, said Arya. She said that as per the memorandum of understanding signed between the department and WFP, another MSU will be built soon in Ramnagar too.
The WFP along with the department will continue to optimise TPDS across the State. An app will also be launched to store necessary data by the department under this programme, added Arya.
