U’khand governor inaugurates Sustainability Fair in UPES

The governor of Uttarakhand Lieutenant General ( Retd) Gurmit Singh inaugurated the ‘Sustainability Fair 2022’ in UPES on Wednesday. The theme of the four-day event is ‘Safe, Resilient, and Sustainable Cities and Communities’.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that people need to be sensitized about pertinent matters on conservation of the environment. “I am sure such events shall serve as an enabler for different thought processes to come together and work towards a common goal of achieving sustainable economic growth, social development, and environmental sustainability,’’ he said. 

The governor mentioned  various central and state-run sustainable projects like Jal Jeevan Mission, Ujwala Yojna and the progress made by India in achieving its sustainability goals.

 The Vice Chancellor (VC) of UPES, Dr Sunil Rai said, “The fair aims to display cutting edge research on sustainability and related challenges of high societal importance. The objective is to promote cost-effective and sustainable solutions, organize brainstorming sessions on sustainable solutions through the industry-academia conclave and establish networking among various stakeholders and plan collaborative actions.”

The four-day summit will offer hands-on training, interactive sessions with renowned dignitaries in the field, sustainability model competitions for school and college students, exhibitions by sustainability practitioners, panel discussions, international symposiums and networking-sessions.

The participants include regional industries, research institutions, academia, government bodies, NGOs, and students from various parts of the world including Spain, Denmark, Sri Lanka, Indonesia. The institute will host exhibitions by regional industries and organizations working on sustainable urban planning and industrial activities, green building materials, pollution, green energy, waste management and bio-refinery, air pollution, and climate change.

The Chancellor of the university Dr S J Chopra, Pro VC Ram Sharma, registrar Manish Madaan and dean of school of Engineering and others attended the function.
