The State government has approved the inclusion of the book ‘Hamari Virasat Evam Vibhutiyan’ as a supplementary resource for the social science curriculum in primary education. The information was shared by the Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat. He said this book aims to familiarise the younger generation with the State’s rich cultural heritage and the biographies of prominent personalities.
Rawat said that under the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, students in State schools will now learn about the State’s glorious history, cultural traditions and notable figures. The inclusion of this book, prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), will serve as an auxiliary resource for social science classes from grades VII to VIII. This curriculum will be implemented starting with the academic session 2025-26, he said.
Rawat further added that through the ‘Hamari Virasat Evam Vibhutiyan’ booklets, students will gain insights into the State’s cultural heritage, including folk songs, dances and its diverse history. They will also learn about the statehood movement and various political, cultural and social developments, along with the lives of eminent personalities, He said. The education minister further informed that in terms of evaluation, the examinations will include these booklets, with a maximum of five marks allocated from a total of 80 in the half-yearly and annual written assessments for social science. Additionally, up to two marks out of 10 will be assessed in monthly examinations. For project work, three out of the 10 marks will also be derived from this book.
Further, schools will be required to plan at least one recital per week within their timetables to incorporate the content of these booklets. Activities such as prayer meetings, discussions, debates, speeches and drama performances related to the book will be organised on Pratibha Diwas, as well as on national and local observances.
Rawat said that this initiative aims to instill a sense of pride and awareness of cultural heritage among students, contributing positively to their moral and social development.
