Ukhand govt committed to better facilities for athletes: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the State government is committed to enhancing facilities for athletes and fostering sports development. He said this while inaugurating the 87th Inter-State Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championship on Wednesday at the Multipurpose Sports Hall, Parade Ground in Dehradun. CM Dhami said that it is a matter of pride that Uttarakhand has got the opportunity to host this prestigious national-level competition for the first time and thanked the Table Tennis Federation of India for their support.
Dhami emphasised that sports serve not only as a medium of competition but also as a solid foundation for personal development. He encouraged young athletes, stating that they represent not only their respective states but also the bright future of the country. He acknowledged that their hard work, discipline and determination are crucial in elevating India to new heights.
He said that table tennis is a sport that demands a blend of speed, balance, technique and mental toughness. It equips players with quick decision-making skills, strategic thinking and the confidence to face challenges.
CM highlighted that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s sports culture has gained new momentum. Initiatives such as “Khelo India” and the “Fit India Movement” have led to significant progress in sports, helping the nation shine on global platforms.
Dhami also praised the outstanding performances of Indian athletes in events like the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, considering them a source of national pride. He said that Uttarakhand has established itself as both Devbhoomi and Khel Bhoomi by successfully hosting the 38th National Games, during which athletes from the State achieved a record of winning 103 medals.
