Sports minister Rekha Arya claimed that the State government is committed to enhancing the sports culture in Uttarakhand and engaging the youth with sports. She said this while speaking at a run “Ek Daud Sehat Ki Aur” held at the Police Line grounds on Sunday. A number of youth, women and senior citizens participated in the event.
Addressing the gathering, Arya emphasised that building a healthy Uttarakhand is a top priority for the government. She said that such runs are not merely races; they serve as a means to promote fitness, discipline and positive energy in society. She acknowledged that people’s physical activity levels are diminishing due to the increasing prevalence of technology and the rise in material comforts. “Mobile phones and digital lifestyles have certainly made our daily routines easier, but they have also led to a decrease in physical activity. If we can engage in at least 30 minutes of exercise or running every day, we can prevent many diseases,” she stated.
Arya further said that sports are not just a path to winning medals but are also a powerful tool for developing self-confidence, discipline and team spirit. She particularly highlighted the inspiring presence of participants who arrived in wheelchairs, noting their enthusiasm serves as motivation for those who neglect their health despite being capable.
