The Uttarakhand government entered an agreement with the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for supply of local products, sheep, goat, chicken and trout on Wednesday at the residence of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) under the vibrant village scheme was signed by Secretary BVRC Purushottam from the Uttarakhand government and Inspector General Sanjay Gunjyal from the ITBP in presence of CM Dhami and Animal Husbandry minister Saurabh Bahuguna.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the agreement will not only augment the livelihood of the people at the local level but will also inculcate a feeling among local people that they are connected with the security of the country.
He said that the agreement will also increase the contact of the local people with the ITBP.
The CM said that the people living in the border areas are the sentinels of the country and the ITBP will act as a brand ambassador to promote the local products of the State.
He directed the officials to ensure that the availability of local products of the State remains in sufficient quantity. The CM suggested that a plan should also be made to supply vegetables, milk, cheese and eggs to the ITBP battalions deployed in the State.
The Animal Husbandry minister Bahuguna said that this important decision has been taken to increase the livelihood of farmers of the State. He expressed gratitude to the union Home minister Amit Shah and CM Pushkar Singh Dhami for the MoU. He added that the agreement will also help in stopping migration from the mountainous areas of the State.
Bahuguna said that more than 11,000 animal breeders will get direct benefit through more than 80 cooperative societies of the State. The beneficiaries include more than 800 poultry farmers and about 500 fish farmers will benefit from this. It is estimated that the cooperative societies will do a business of Rs 200 crore from the MoU.
The secretary Shailesh Bagauli, Dilip Jawalkar and ITBP officers were present on the occasion.
