In a gift to more than 1.60 lakh employees and pensioners, the State government has increased their dearness allowance (DA) by four per cent on the eve of the Uttarakhand foundation day.
The employees would now get 38 per cent DA as against prevalent 34 per cent. The revised DA would be applicable from July 1 this year. The employees would receive the arrears of the increased salary for the period of July 1 to October 31 in cash. The order for increase in the DA of the employees and pensioners was released by the secretary Dilip Jawalkar on Wednesday. The order would be applicable to all employees of the State government, aided teaching institutes, workers of the local bodies and the recipients of the University Grants Commission (UGC) scales. However the order will not be applicable to the judges of High Court (HC), chairman and members of Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC), civil/family pensioners of local bodies and Public Undertaking Corporations in respect of whom separate orders will have to be issued by respective departments.
The increase in the DA would put an additional burden of about Rs 450 crore on the State exchequer. The salaries of the employees would witness an increase of Rs 800 to Rs 10,000 after the increase in DA.
The order for increase in DA was being awaited anxiously by the State government employees. In the meeting of the State cabinet held last month, the cabinet had authorised the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to take a decision in this regard. After the approval of Dhami the order for increase in DA was issued on Tuesday.
