U’khand Govt tables bill on stringent land laws

The much awaited Uttarakhand (Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act,1950) Amendment Bill- 2025 was tabled by Parliamentary Affairs minister Prem Chand Agarwal in Vidhan Sabha on Thursday.
The State cabinet had approved the draft of the bill popularly called Bhoo Kanoon in its meeting held on Wednesday. The bill seeks to prohibit the people of other States from purchasing land for agricultural and horticulture purposes in 11 mountainous districts (barring Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar) of Uttarakhand.
The new bill also aims to amend section 154 of part three, section 156 of part four and schedule 2 of part five of the existing land laws.
The new act will be applicable only in the rural areas of 11 mountainous districts and the areas under the jurisdiction of urban local bodies will not be covered under it. However outsiders intending to purchase land in the municipal corporations, councils and Nagar Panchayats will have to submit an affidavit that he or his family has not purchased more than 250 square meters of land elsewhere in the State for residential purposes.
The Parliamentary Affairs minister also tabled the Uttarakhand Private Universities (Amendment) Bill 2025, Uttarakhand ( Uttar Pradesh Public Service Reservation for Physically Handicapped, Dependents of Freedom Fighters and Purva Sainiks Act 1993) amendment bill 2025, Uttarakhand Public Service ( horizontal reservation for excellent players) amendment bill 2025 and Uttarakhand goods and service ( amendment) bill 2025 in the house on Thursday.
