With Uttarakhand police headquarters having taken a strict stand on the pending drug cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a total of 33 pending cases from Garhwal Range and 44 from Kumaon Range have been reviewed in detail. The additional director general (crime and law and order), V Murugeshan held a video conference meeting on Saturday and directed that all cases pending for more than one year must be completed within a fixed time limit.
The ADG further instructed the officers concerned to take strong legal action against drug traffickers under the NDPS Act, Gangster Act and PIT NDPS Act. He also ordered property attachment under Section 68 in suitable cases.
Senior officers were asked to regularly monitor such cases and use the Government of India portal effectively. Directions were also given to open history sheets of habitual offenders and keep them under constant watch. The STF has been asked to review investigation progress regularly and maintain proper records of all NDPS-related information.
The ADG warned that any negligence or collusion in drug cases would fetch stern action. Investigating officers have been given one month to complete pending investigations, especially in cases where forensic reports have already been received. In two cases from Haridwar and one case each from Dehradun and Nainital, departmental action has been ordered against investigating officers for alleged negligence.
