More than two months after the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami issued an order to create a new rank of additional sub inspector (ASI) in the State, Uttarakhand police promoted a total of 1,249 head constables to ASI post on Friday.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar said that the CM had given an apt solution to resolve the grade pay issue of police personnel by approving new 1,750 posts of ASIs. He said that following the order, the selection committee of the department found 1,249 head constables suitable for the promotion to the ASI post which have finally been promoted on Friday. These 1,249 promoted head constables belonged to various units and branches of the State police including 328 male and 32 female personnel from Civil Police, 377 personnel from armed police, 422 from Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and seven from armourer among others.
The DGP also informed that promotion of 19 police personnel is kept on hold due to departmental action. Also, 482 head constables failed to qualify for the ASI post as they have not served in the head constable post for two years as per the eligibility criteria. Kumar said that these posts have currently been kept vacant and the department will make efforts to fill these posts soon after getting relaxation from the government. He said that 3,000 constables will also be promoted to head constable posts within a week too.
