Kiran Patel who was nabbed on March 3 in Srinagar by authorities for posing as a top-ranking bureaucrat from Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had also visited several places in Uttarakhand last year. According to various photos posted on his social media platforms, he had purportedly visited Dehradun, Rishikesh and Kedarnath last year around July and August.

The additional director general of police, law and order, V Murugesan said that police have been apprised of his presence in the State last year through photos uploaded by him on social media. He said the police would investigate by checking relevant records whether he had taken advantage of the State’s security protocols by using his fake credentials.

The police would take appropriate legal action if he is found to be guilty of availing the security illegally, added Murugesan. Patel is an alleged conman, hailing from Gujarat, who was nabbed on March 3 from a five-star hotel in Srinagar by security officials for posing as a senior officer from PMO while on his third trip to Kashmir.
