Uttarakhand receives Most Film Friendly State Award

Uttarakhand received the Most Film Friendly State (Special Mention) Award during the 68th National Film Awards function in the national Capital on Friday. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award to the State’s representative, director general of Information, and chief executive officer of the Uttarakhand Film Development Council (UFDC) Banshidhar Tiwari.

Expressing his views after receiving the award, Tiwari said that this recognition will further boost film shooting in the State. He said that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken various important decisions to encourage the film industry in the State. An atmosphere conducive to film producers- directors has been developed in the State government due to which the State is being awarded at the national level. He further said that the State’s film policy is being made more attractive and practical. This will further encourage film production activities in Uttarakhand and result in more filmmakers arriving in the State. On the other hand, this activity will also increase employment opportunities for the local residents. Regarding the film policy made by the State government, Tiwari said that a single window system is in place to provide permission for film shooting. Further, no fee is being charged for shooting in the State. There is also a provision for a grant of up to Rs 1.5 crore in the new film policy along with the provision of police security during the shooting period. Local cinema halls are also required to hold at least one show every week screening a regional movie, he added.

The UFDC nodal officer Nitin Upadhyay informed that Uttarakhand had received the award on Friday for taking the film industry forward with measures like providing a conducive atmosphere for filmmaking in the State.  The State has been awarded for excellent performance in this sphere. In the past one year more than 150 films, serials, documentaries, and other items have been shot in Uttarakhand, he added.
