With the cooperative societies across the world celebrating International Cooperative Day on July 1 since 1923, this year marks its completion of 100 years. However, it will be the 29th International Day of Cooperatives as recognised by the United Nations. The annual celebration of the day recognises the immense contribution the cooperatives have been playing in the global economy.
The State government is all set to observe the International Cooperative Day on Saturday. The State cooperative department officials said that several programmes have been lined up to mark the day. They claimed that the State government has achieved computerisation of all the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Societies (PACS) in the State.
Notably, the process of computerisation of the PACS started in Uttarakhand in October 2021 and all the 670 PACS in the State have been computerized at present. “We are committed to meeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s target of doubling the farmers’ income with the help of cooperatives,” said a senior officer of the State cooperative department.
