U’khand to develop 20 model colleges for research

Sum of Rs 129 crore released for ambitious project by State government

The State government has decided to develop 20 government colleges of the State as research based model colleges as per the National Education Policy (NEP) -2020. The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said on Friday that a sum of Rs 129 crore has been approved for the project. Under the project infrastructure facilities will be developed in these colleges. He said that apart from this Rs 30 crore have been approved for the construction of separate post graduate blocks of science and arts faculties in six government colleges of the State. The minister said that the Government PG college Rudrapur, Kashipur, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Haldwani, Ranikhet, Kotdwar, Narendranagar, New Tehri, Uttarkashi, Thalisain, Gairsain, Laksar, Gopeshwar, Dakpatthar, Raipur, Agastyamuni and the DBS campus of Kumaon university and the Almora campus of the Soban Singh Jeena university will be developed as model colleges for research under the project.

Rawat said that modern IT laboratories, e-learning cells and  women and men hostels will be set up in these model colleges. The hostels will have adequate and modern security arrangements along with all the facilities. The minister added that parking for students, dining hall, kitchen, room for specially abled children; ramp and warden office will be constructed in the model colleges. The minister said that arts faculty building will be constructed in the Government PG College Syaldey, Berinag and Kapkot while science faculty building will be constructed in the Government College Tanakpur, Thatyude and Someshwar. He said that the officers of the department have been directed to start construction works in the model colleges and the PG colleges for construction of faculty buildings. Rawat said that the officers should ensure that the works get completed on time so that the students start taking their benefit.
