Uttarakhand to host Canoe Sprint National Championship from August 22

Qualifier for National Games to be held at Baur reservoir in Udham Singh Nagar
The 33rd Canoe Sprint National Senior Men and Women Championship 2022, qualifier for National Games 2022 will be organised from August 22 to 25. This national championship will be held at the Baur reservoir at Gularbhoj in the Udham Singh Nagar district. According to officials, this event is expected to give a boost to water and adventure sports in the State.
Separate competitions will be organised for women and men in this championship being organised with the support of the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB). The competitions to be held for women and men will include canoe sprint K1, K2, K4, C1, C2 and C4 200 metres, 500 metres, 1,000 metres and 5,000 metres along with women and men mixed K2, C2 500 metres, master women and men mixed K1, C1 200 metres competitions. Canoe polo and standup paddle-boarding will also be exhibited during the event.
The State’s Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj informed that this national championship will encourage water sports while also playing an important role in tourism development in the State. Tourism secretary Sachin Kurve said that the UTDB is committed to adventure sports competitions in the State.
Additional chief executive officer (adventure wing) Ashwini Pundir said that about 500 participants are slated to compete in this event. Those who are selected in this championship will qualify to participate in the National Games to be held in Gujarat. He further said that the Tourism department has been organising such competitions from time to time in order to provide a boost to adventure sports.
