U’khand to host world congress on disaster management

Experts from different parts of the world will deliberate on the challenges in disaster management and climate change while also focussing on the Himalayan ecology and communities during the upcoming sixth World Congress on Disaster Management in Dehradun. The convention will be organised from November 28 to December 1 this year.
Informing about the event the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that congress will be organised under the joint aegis of Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA), DMICS Hyderabad and Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST). He said that the heads of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and representatives and subject experts from renowned institutes of the world will be invited to the congress. The CM said that the objective of the event is to hold discussions and find solutions for the challenges of climate change and disaster mitigation. Another objective of the programme is to develop Uttarakhand as a centre for disaster mitigation and promptness and environment friendly solutions, he added.
The CM said that climate change and disaster resilience are very important subjects and they are important for the country, particularly the Himalayan States.
The CM said that the State government wants to spread the message of ‘safe investment – resilient Uttarakhand’ and for this purpose an international conference on disaster management is being held just before the global investors summit-2023. He clarified the objective of the State government to strike a balance between the economy and ecology.
Small events and special sessions in the schools and institutes of the State will be organised before the World Congress on disaster management. Dhami said that a request will be sent to PM Narendra Modi and Home minister Amit Shah to attend the programme. Popular actor Amitabh Bachhan will be the brand ambassador of the event.
The disaster management secretary Ranjit Sinha said that Uttarakhand has faced the biggest disaster of the history and is prone to disasters. He said the programme will help in building the capacity to deal with the disaster.
The World Congress on Disaster Management will have four major sessions, 50 technical sessions and many special technical sessions.
