U’khand to make separate transfer policy for faculty members of medical colleges

The Uttarakhand government has decided to prepare a separate transfer policy for the faculty members of the government medical colleges of the State. Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said this at the ‘Doctor of the Year Award-2025’ programme organised on National Doctors Day at the Government Doon Medical College here on Tuesday.

Rawat said that the State government has taken many steps for strengthening the health infrastructure in the State and has made large scale appointments of specialist doctors, medical officers, nursing officers, paramedics and other staff. He said that a separate transfer policy for the faculty members of the government medical colleges will be made and it will be medical faculty centric. He said that the proposed transfer policy will be clear and transparent so that there is no confusion among the employees regarding their transfer. The minister assured that the officers concerned have been directed to undertake in-depth study of all aspects and every detail minutely before preparing the draft of the new transfer policy.

He averred that the posts vacant in different departments and cadres will be filled and new posts as per the norms of Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) will be created. The minister also assured that the benefit of 100 per cent promotion to the employees will be given and a directive in this regard has been given to the officers concerned.

The minister also claimed that the State government is engaged in establishing a strong health network in Uttarakhand. He added that in the mountainous areas the government is trying to provide all facilities to the doctors. Rawat said that an increase in remuneration of the doctors will be made so that more and more doctors are encouraged to serve in the mountainous areas.

Padma Shri recipient orthopaedic surgeon Dr BKS Sanjay remarked that road accidents are now a leading cause of disability with about 1,500 accidents causing about 1,000 deaths annually in the State. He requested Rawat to incorporate road safety into the school education curriculum.

HNB Medical Education University vice chancellor Onkar Singh also expressed his views. Ayurveda University  VC Arun Tripathi, Medical Education director Dr Ashutosh Sayana, GDMC principal Dr Geeta Khanna and others attended the programme.
