U’khand to organise Millet fairs in Doon and Haldwani

The State government will organise Millet fairs in Dehradun and Haldwani in May and June which will be attended by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar along with agriculture ministers of different states. Agricultural scientists, vice-chancellors of various universities besides industrialists and farmers will also participate in the fair in Dehradun.
The agriculture minister Ganesh Joshi stated this on Wednesday in a meeting organised with the officials of the agriculture department to discuss the preparation of the millet fair. He said that stalls from various millet producing states will also be set up in the fair apart from Uttarakhand farmers and asked officials to take action to ensure millets get widespread publicity across the State. He asked them to prepare an outline to organise Millets Fair Rath Yatra to spread awareness about the fair and advantages of millets consumption. He said that cultural programmes and technical sessions regarding agriculture will also be part of the fair.
Joshi directed the officials to work in a well-planned manner regarding the grand event of the millets fair. He said that most of the farmers in the state grow millets and its mention in the union budget by the central government will certainly open new doors of opportunities for farmers here at state and central level. It will expand the market of traditional produce of the state benefitting the farmers at every level, added Joshi. He said that the state government is also making all efforts to promote millets to give a boost to the farmers here and the millets fair is one of such initiatives which will be a huge success.
