U’khand to provide help to estranged women during litigation period

In a novel plan the Uttarakhand government has decided to provide financial help to women during the period of litigation related to marital discord. The chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said on Friday that a sum of Rs 3.60 crore is kept in this year’s budget for the scheme. He said that the objective is to provide help to the women during the process of litigation as no alimony is paid during this period.

The CM said that Uttarakhand has set up a precedent for other states by providing co-ownership rights for women in the ancestral properties of their husbands.  He said that the Ghasyari Kalyan Yojana is a unique scheme which would not only remove the load of fodder from the shoulders of the women but would also give an impetus to rural economy. The CM said that he has lost family members who had gone fetch fodder. He said that under the scheme, farmers would be encouraged for farming of grass family crops which would be processed and provided to the women.

The CM added that the state government is providing Saubhagyavati Kits to the mothers and new born under which nutrition and other items are provided. He said that the state government has prepared a plan to provide self defence training to more than one lakh girls.
