U’khand to send 10 students to UK varsities under Chevening scholarship

The State government will select 10 students from the colleges of the state and send them to the universities of the United Kingdom under the prestigious Chevening international scholarship programme. Under the programme five girls and five boys would be selected from the colleges for post graduation in the UK. The head of Chevening India, Supriya Chawala held separate meetings with the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat here on Friday.
She said that Chevening has been working in 16 countries for the last four decades and it helps students in getting admission in any university of the UK for higher studies. The cost of the study is about Rs 40 lakh per year. The
State government bears 50 per cent of this cost while the remaining 50 per cent is given by Chevening India. The students are selected on the basis of their leadership qualities and educational excellence. She claimed that the Chevening International has prepared many leaders and torch bearers of change in the world.
Dhami said that the State government is making efforts to encourage the talented students. For promoting higher education, the State government has started a chief minister meritorious scholarship programme.
Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the scholarship is a good opportunity for the students to fulfil their educational and professional targets. He said Uttarakhand will take part in the scholarship programme of the Chevening International.
