U’khand’s job-oriented new tourism policy will attract private investors: Maharaj

Uttarakhand tourism minister Satpal Maharaj said on Wednesday that the new tourism policy of the State government has been crafted in such a way that it will attract private investors. “Thanks to this, not just the tourism sector will develop across the State but also a large number of people will get employment opportunities,” he said at the conclusion of the two-day Chintan Shivir organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in New Delhi on Wednesday.  

Maharaj further said that the State government has been going the whole hog in creating proper infrastructure to help tourists visit the State hassle free. Dwelling on the importance of private investment in tourism sector, the minister said that it is of immense importance.  “Keeping this in view, the State government has given the industry status to tourism,” he said.

Elaborating, Maharaj said that the new tourism policy 2023 involves a provision of 100 percent capital subsidy for new tourism products and services such as Heli tourism, caravan tourism, adventure tourism, cab operators (electric vehicles only).

“Thanks to the simplification of the business environment in the state, Uttarakhand’s Ease of Doing Business ranking has increased substantially from 23rd  rank in 2015 to 11th by 2021. Not just this but in 2022, Uttarakhand has got the status of achiever,” he said.

Speaking of Uttarakhand fast emerging as a favourite destination for film shooting, the State tourism minister said that the picturesque mountain terrains across the state like Nainital and Mussoorie keep beckoning the filmmakers. “We have ensured that the producers get quick approval for the film sites they choose,” he said.

He further said that under the inspiration of the Prime Minister and the chief minister of the State, the State government has been trying to improve the State’s connectivity with the rest of the country.  “The expressway being constructed from Delhi to Dehradun exemplifies this. This aside, air services are seeing expansion across the State,” he added.
