ULB election campaign ends ahead of polling on Thursday

 The campaign for the urban local bodies election ended in the State on Tuesday. The candidates will now focus on door to door campaign to seek the support of voters. 

The elections will be held in 11 municipal corporations, 43 municipal councils and 46 Nagar Panchayats in the State. The voting in these bodies will be held from 8 AM to 5 PM on January 23. The counting of the votes will commence at 8 AM on January 25 and the results are expected on the same day.

 On the last day of the campaign on Tuesday, all the major political parties and the candidates threw their entire might to woo the electorate in the 100 ULB of the State where the voting will be held on January 23. Leading the campaign of the BJP, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed public meetings and held road shows in Badkot, Haridwar, Laksar, Roorkee and Dehradun. In the evening, he participated in a massive roadshow in support of BJP mayoral candidate Saurabh Thapliyal in Dehradun. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara and leader of opposition Yashpal Arya addressed many public meetings in the Kumaon region.

 A total of 30,63,143 ( 15,79,789 male, 14,82,809 female) voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the State. 

In the 11 Municipal Corporations a total of 19,56,589 voters will elect 540 councilors and mayors  while 8,04,324 strong electorate will elect 43 chairpersons and 444 members in 43 municipal councils of the State. In the 46 Nagar Panchayats there are 3,02,560 voters. They will elect 46 chairpersons and 298 members. 

 Though there are 107 ULBs in the State the elections will be held in only 100 bodies. 

There are 30,83,500 ( 15,89,467 male and 14,93,519 female) voters who are eligible to exercise their franchise in the election. The State Election Commission has set up 1,518 polling stations and 3,393 polling booths for the ULB polls. The SEC has declared  601 polling stations and 1292 polling booths as sensitive while 422 polling stations and 1,078 polling stations have been declared as hyper sensitive.
