In latest news from Dehradun, with the Urban Local Body (ULB) poll postponement spree in the State continuing, the State government has submitted a fresh affidavit at the Nainital High Court, stating that these polls could not be held in October.
As per the timeline envisaged by the State government, the ULB notification will be issued on November 10. The affidavit further stated that following the selection of the new State new election commissioner, the delimitation process involving 11 urban local bodies across the State had started on September 3 and is expected to be completed by October 31. Given the approaching festival season, the State government suggested the issuance of ULB poll notification on November 10 and completion of the election process by December 25.
After deliberating on the affidavit, the Nainital High Court disposed of the public interest litigation related to the delayed ULB polls. Notably, the State government had submitted its earlier affidavit, stating that the poll process would be completed by October 25.
